Computer Skills Assessment at Citadel Middle School

Criterion based assessment occurs not just through a comparrison with standards within our own school but with other Middle Schools in the district. Our Middle School teachers meet at least every two months. In the first four months of this 1990-00 we met three times and one of those was a full professional development day. At these sessions we give each other 'inservices' on network management and specific application skills. We also exchange student pr oduct samples showing least to best output and set a standard marks reference for project work.

Assessment for computers at Citadel include the following as laid out in ReMark.

As can be seen by the marks weighting used above, Project work is worth twice that of quizzes. In other words, the focus is on product, e.g. A Website done in HTML, a DeskTop Publishing project such as a simple newspaper and a Hypercard animation.

Basic computer skills are worth more than typing skills as outlined in the curriculum.

Finally, a few students who have a strength for regularly assisting other students are given extra marks or additional credit report comments for 'mentoring'.
